Leadership Profile

Dr. Ernie Alama effectively leads Metric and Metrics Inc., drawing on his extensive background in research, management, and education. He holds a master’s degree in management from the University of Technology Sydney and a doctorate from the Graduate Division of Educational Research at the University of Calgary. Additionally, he has further strengthened his academic credentials with studies in community economic development at Simon Fraser University.

In addition to his corporate role, Dr. Alama is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Education at St. Mary’s University. He is deeply committed to applied and participatory action research, focusing on areas such as diversity and inclusion, wellness, disability studies, contemplative education, immigration, social engagement, and community economic development. As a passionate writer, he contributes to community-based magazines that address topics related to ethno-diversity, identities, and migration.

In 2017, Dr. Alama introduced the concept of “Social Return on Investment (SOR),” which redefined traditional paradigms of Return on Investment (ROI). During the COVID-19 pandemic, he participated in a significant study with the College of Researchers for Development Society, titled “Understanding the Canadian COVID-19 Experience: Flight, Freeze, and Engage.” This research provided valuable insights into the social and psychological resilience of Canadians amidst the crisis.

In 2023, Dr. Alama collaborated with the Calgary Catholic Immigration Society on a transformative research project named “In the Place I Call Home,” launched the same year. He has shared his expertise and findings through numerous presentations, engaging audiences at the Metropolis Conference in Vancouver and Calgary in 2022 and 2023. Currently, Dr. Alama is working on a research project that examines the critical role of diversity and inclusion in the lives of Filipino-Canadians, addressing essential issues within today’s multicultural society.
